Call for proposals OnderwijsFestival
On Thursday 9 March 2023, UU's premier education event will take place: the OnderwijsFestival. Would you like to be kept informed about the programme? Let us know! For the past four years, the festival also paid special attention to teachers and staff who are doing research on their own teaching (Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, SoTL). We invite teachers to submit an abstract on such projects and to share plans, progress or results.

Community Engaged Learning Event marks the start of a new phase
Utrecht University is committed to socially engaged education, also known as Community Engaged Learning (CEL). On Monday 14 November, the CEL event was entirely dedicated to this ambition. Academic teachers, students and (social) organisations from the region joined forces in the Neude Library for more collaboration between the university and society. At the end of the day, James Kennedy gave his inaugural lecture as university professor on CEL and the future of the university.

From the Teaching and Learning Collection
Share your experiences with the Teaching and Learning Collection
The Teaching and Learning Collection offers teachers all kinds of knowledge they can use in their teaching, such as learning activities and knowledge items. The collection has now been in existence for 3.5 years and in order to map out how it is currently used, which parts are frequently visited and, above all, what the users' wishes are, a survey was drawn up. We would like to use the results of the survey to continue improving the collection and to meet users' needs as much as possible. We would appreciate it if you would fill in this short survey! It will take about 5-10 minutes.

U-Collaborate in Education is working on a matching app
Utrecht University adds value to society by working together with civil society organisations and companies on solutions to complex issues. U-Collaborate in Education connects the internal educational organisation and external partners who want to shape education together and makes existing activities and initiatives visible. Currently, it is difficult for initiators of this type of education and civil society organisations and companies to find each other. Which is why Utrecht University, via the U-Collaborate in Education programme, is working with Startup in Residence (SiR) on a matching app to simplify this process. Want to read more about this collaboration?

Updates Team Learning Analytics
Collecting and analysing study data and the insights derived from those analyses - also called learning analytics (LA) - have become an essential tool in shaping and improving the quality of education. At UU, Team Learning Analytics, which recently launched a new website, is working on LA within both teaching and research. In the field of research, for example, the team has ensured that UU has prolonged its membership of the Society for Learning Analytics Research (SoLAR), meaning that all UU-employees can become individual SoLAR members for free. To join, go to the SoLAR membership page, select individual membership and enter the following code: utrecht-23-24.

News from the teaching community TAUU
Have you experienced start-up problems this year? Share it with us!
As the TAUU council, we found that we were running into some problems regarding our teaching at the start of this academic year, such as unstable internet connection or inconvenient lecture rooms. We would like to collect some information on what problems you as our fellow lecturers have encountered at the start of this academic year. The survey is made up of 7 short questions and will take about 5 minutes to answer. We would greatly appreciate it if you could take the time to fill it out!

Looking back on the Future Learning Spaces open day
On 9 November, Future Learning Spaces held an open day. It was very fun and inspiring to share various perspectives with all interested parties. We have shown the different learning spaces and explained our development and evaluation processes. There was also a delegation from Denmark visiting. Together, we have been able to show how the Centre for Academic Teaching and Learning within Utrecht University contributes to improvement and innovation of physical learning environments. Would you like to hear more about this? Please contact FLS@uu.nl.
