Covering the basics: Key resources for academics at University College Utrecht
Academic Rules and Regulations The Academic Rules and Regulations (ARR) outline important aspects of studying at University College Utrecht, such as diploma and course requirements, grading and assessment, etc. A new edition is released each academic year and applies to all students, no matter when you started. Read this document carefully to have a clear idea what you can expect from UCU during your studies, as well as what is expected of you as a student. Curriculum and Course Planner At University College Utrecht you will be able to compose your own multidisciplinary curriculum by combining courses from more than 20 academic disciplines, with around 230 different courses per year. You have already selected your course preferences for your first semester, but it’s always good to start by familiarising yourself with the UCU curriculum, and reading about example study programmes on our Curriculum website. Then head over to the UU Course Planner - the online tool to browse through courses - including course descriptions, prerequisites, and required/recommended reading. You can find a manual for using the Course Planner effectively here. Personal tutor All students are assigned a tutor - your academic mentor and curriculum advisor throughout your time at University College Utrecht. Your tutor will provide guidance and support, as well as counsel you about your academic options and goals. You will meet your tutor for the first-time during Introduction Week. In the meantime, check our website for more information about the tutor system in general and the tutors currently at UCU. Shortened Programme If you have studied at university before and completed the equivalent of at least 30 or 60 ECTS, you can apply for a Shortened Programme, and (as the name implies) shorten your programme at University College Utrecht by 1 or 2 semesters. Find out more about the requirements and the application process on our website.
Next time…You can find out all about campus and housing! Stay tuned for our upcoming edition in a couple of weeks where we will be introducing you to the practicalities of your arrival on campus, your campus at a glance, and the ins and outs of your new home within the UCU community.
