The CCSS has been very active over the last few months. First of all, I’m very pleased to announce that the CCSS is hosting the annual conference of the Netherlands Platform Complex Systems (NPCS) this year. After several years of absence, the NPCS conference will take place in Utrecht on 17 April. Further details and a registration link (deadline 8 April) are provided in this newsletter. Also worth noting is that research from several CCSS members, in particular on climate tipping phenomena, has made the international news recently. This illustrates the success of complex systems approaches to societally relevant problems. Furthermore, the Young Complexity Researchers have been extremely active and organized many meetings on a diverse range of topics. This academic year, regular activities at the CCSS are organized around two themes: (i) the use of neural differential equations to model complex systems and (ii) a complex systems view of broader welfare. We had already some great presentations which were well attended by the CCSS community. Join us in attending the last events up to the Summer, as listed in this newsletter. At the heart of the CCSS community lies collaboration and participation. As always, I’m warmly inviting those who haven’t yet signed up for a CCSS membership to join us! There are three membership options available: Associate Membership, for permanent scientific staff at UU; Junior Membership, for temporary scientific staff at UU; and External Membership, intended for non-UU scientific staff engaged in ongoing joint projects with our UU members. We are looking forward to seeing you soon (again) in the CSSS. The Daily Board of the CCSS

Potential collapse of the Atlantic Ocean Circulation strongly affects European climate |
Researchers from Utrecht University have successfully simulated the collapse of the large-scale ocean circulation in the Atlantic Ocean using a complex climate model. This revealed severe global climate repercussions, with Europe bearing the brunt.
