Oktober is diversity month aan de UU en er gebeurt van alles. We trappen af tijdens Diversity Day waar we aandacht vragen voor stereotypering in de wetenschap. Onder meer door persoonlijke verhalen in de documentaire ‘Not the science type’ en via interviews met vrouwelijke Bèta en Geo wetenschappers van de UU. Ook is er die dag het Symposium Kleurrijke zorg bij het UMCU. Maar ook de rest van de maand staan we stil bij Equality, Diversity en Inclusion. Zoals bij Coming Out Day, het Symposium over Inclusief Onderwijs dat we samen met CAT organiseren en het literaire evenement One Book One Campus met schrijfster Bernardine Evaristo. Informatie over deze activiteiten en meer is te lezen in deze nieuwsbrief. Geweldig dat er zoveel wordt georganiseerd en dat we samen werken aan een universiteit waarin iedereen gelijkwaardig is!

| 4 oktober 2022: Diversity Day
|
Op 4 oktober vragen we aandacht voor het thema stereotypering in de wetenschap via de documentaire ‘Not the Science Type’ en een korte film die het EDI Office heeft laten maken met drie vrouwelijke UU wetenschappers: Laura Gomez, Malavika Sivan, Sanita Dhaubanjar. | 10 oktober: Uitnodiging Emma at Work Q&A - voor studenten met een functiebeperking
|
Op maandag 10 oktober om 17.00 uur organiseert het Platform Onbeperkt Studeren in samenwerking met Emma at Work een Q&A voor studenten met een functiebeperking. Tijdens de Q&A krijg je een indruk van de werkwijze van Emma at Work en mag je al je vragen stellen. Meer informatie via deze pdf. Aanmelden kan door een mail te sturen naar onbeperktstuderen@uu.nl.

EVENEMENT 11 oktober
Vandaag ondertekenen we een belangrijke overeenkomst. Vanaf dat moment zijn we verbonden aan Workday Pride, wat inhoudt dat we actief aan de slag gaan (en blijven!) met inclusiviteit op de werkvloer. Ook presenteren Milou van de Brug en Miriam Wickham de resultaten van een onderzoek omtrent het regenboogfietspad. Je kunt hierbij aanwezig zijn! De ondertekening vindt plaats in de Blauwe Zaal in het Marinus Ruppertgebouw. Meld je aan voor deze bijeenkomst of check het gehele programma.

EVENEMENT 11 oktober
Dit keer organiseert het Class Conscious Academics Network een speciale editie van CCAN's Classy Salon, met een lezing van professor emerita Geraldine Van Bueren. Na de lezing is er een paneldiscussie over de relevantie van Van Buerens onderzoek in het algemeen en de Code in het bijzonder, waarbij wordt onderzocht hoe klassenvertegenwoordiging op institutioneel niveau aan de Universiteit Utrecht beter kan worden aangepakt.

| Symposium 'All Inclusive'
|
EVENEMENT 13 oktober
Op 13 oktober organiseert het EDI Office samen met CAT op een bijzondere locatie (Museum Speelklok) een middag-symposium over inclusief onderwijs, met het thema ‘All Inclusive’. Je kunt bijvoorbeeld workshops volgen over het gebruik van pronouns, het inclusiever maken van het curriculum en het bevorderen van (digitale) toegankelijkheid. Daarnaast kun je luisteren naar een live opname van de UU Docentenkamer podcast, het Senior Fellow panel of je kunt in beweging komen met voormalig bokskampioene Houda Loukili. De bijeenkomst live volgen kan helaas niet meer, maar er zijn nog verschillende mogelijkheden om deel te nemen. Bekijk het programma online.

EVENEMENT kick-off 31 oktober
One Book One Campus is een UU breed leesproject dat graag gesprekken over diversiteit en inclusie in het onderwijs op gang wil brengen en de UU als intellectuele gemeenschap wil versterken. We nodigen alle studenten en medewerkers van de universiteit uit om het boek Meisje, Vrouw, Anders van Bernardine Evaristo te lezen en hierover met elkaar in gesprek te gaan. Koop nu je Nederlandstalige boek of de Engelse versie voor slechts 6 euro in de UU webshop en lees mee!

| Netwerk USP Inclusief breidt samenwerking uit én organiseert themabijeenkomst
|
| Sinds 25 augustus heeft de Hogeschool Utrecht zich aangesloten bij het netwerk USP Inclusief op het Utrecht Science Park. Wil je weten wat Netwerk USP inclusief doet? Kijk dan het filmpje. Op 8 november 2022 organiseert Netwerk USP Inclusief een themabijeenkomst (in het Nederlands) met als thema: 'Psyche en de werkvloer: Op zoek naar een inclusieve diagnosevrije benadering'.

| Werkervaringsplekken voor statushouders gezocht!
|
| We zijn op zoek naar nieuwe werkervaringsplekken van 6-8 maanden voor statushouders binnen de UU. Momenteel is Incluusion, het vluchtelingenprogramma van de UU, druk bezig om uit 80 nieuwe aanmeldingen de beste kandidaten te selecteren, die verspreid over de universiteit aan de slag hopen te gaan.

- 3 november: masterclass Joris Luyendijk. In het kader van het UU brede leiderschapsprogramma kunnen alle leidinggevenden aan de UU op 3 november de Masterclass diversiteit bijwonen. Spreker bij deze Masterclass is niemand minder dan Joris Luyendijk. Joris is antropoloog en journalist en deelt met ons zijn kijk op diversiteit, die afgelopen jaar tot opschudding heeft geleid.

October is diversity month at UU and there are lots of things going on. We kick off Diversity Day by drawing attention to stereotyping in science. Among other things, through personal stories in the documentary 'Not the science type' and through interviews with female Beta and Geo scientists at UU. Also on that day is the Symposium ‘Kleurrijke zorg’ at UMCU. But we also reflect on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion during the rest of the month. Like Coming Out Day, the Symposium on Inclusive Education we are organising together with CAT and the literary event One Book One Campus with writer Bernardine Evaristo. Information about these activities and more can be read in this newsletter. I’m excited that so much is being organised and that we are working together to create a university where everyone is equal!

On 4 October, we will draw attention to the issue of stereotyping in science through the documentary 'Not the Science Type' and a short film commissioned by the EDI Office featuring three female UU scientists: Laura Gomez, Malavika Sivan, Sanita Dhaubanjar. | 10 October: Invitation Emma at Work Q&A - for students with disabilities
|
| On Monday 10 October at 5pm, the Platform ‘Onbeperkt Studeren’, in collaboration with Emma at Work, will organise a Q&A for students with disabilities. During the Q&A, you will get an impression of how Emma at Work works and you may ask all your questions. More information via this pdf. EVENT 11 October
On 11 October, Utrecht University will sign an important agreement at 4pm. From then on, we will be associated with Workday Pride, which means we will actively work (and continue to work!) with inclusivity in the workplace. Milou van de Brug and Miriam Wickham will also present the results of a survey regarding the rainbow bike path. All interested HU and UU students and staff can attend! The signing will take place in the Blauwe Zaal in the Marinus Ruppert building on the Utrecht Science Park. Register for this meeting or check the entire programme.

EVENT 11 October
This time, the Class Conscious Academics Network is hosting a special edition of CCAN's Classy Salon, featuring a lecture by professor emerita Geraldine Van Bueren. After the lecture, there will be a panel discussion on the relevance of Van Bueren's research in general and the Code in particular, exploring how class representation can be better addressed at the institutional level at Utrecht University. | Symposium 'All Inclusive'

EVENT 13 October
On 13 October, the EDI Office together with CAT is organising an afternoon symposium on inclusive education at a special location (Museum Speelklok), with the theme 'All Inclusive'. You can attend workshops on, for example, using pronouns, making the curriculum more inclusive and promoting (digital) accessibility. You can also listen to a live recording of the UU Teachers' Room podcast, the Senior Fellow panel or get moving with former boxing champion Houda Loukili. Unfortunately, following the meeting live is no longer possible, but there are still several options to be part of this event. Check out the programme online.

EVENT kick-off 31 October
One Book One Campus is a UU-wide reading project eager to spark conversations about diversity and inclusion in education and strengthen UU as an intellectual community. We invite all UU students and staff to read the book Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo and engage in conversation about it. Buy your Dutch-language book now or the English version for only 6 euros in the UU webshop and read along!

Network USP Inclusive expands cooperation and organises theme meeting

| Work experience placements for status holders wanted!
|
We are looking for new work experience placements of 6-8 months for status holders within UU. Currently, Incluusion, UU's refugee programme, is busy selecting the best candidates from 80 new applications, who hope to start working across the university.

- 3 November: masterclass Joris Luyendijk. As part of the UU broad leadership programme, all UU executives can attend the Masterclass on Diversity on November 3rd. The speaker at this Masterclass is none other than Joris Luyendijk. Joris is an anthropologist and journalist and shares with us his view on diversity, which caused a stir last year.
