On 1 October, a new set of University Regulations on Teaching Qualifications came into force at Utrecht University. These regulations specify new agreements, procedures, requirements and some formats for the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) and Senior University Teaching Qualification (STQ) programmes, which will apply to lecturers from this autumn onwards.
These new regulations place even greater emphasis on continual development of lecturers than the previous framework formulated in 2009. In addition, the UTQ and STQ competencies have been updated in accordance with the very latest insights in the field of educational science. A more standardised learning track will be offered to all UTQ candidates within UU.

Let us know what you think of the hybrid classrooms
Within Utrecht University, 44 classrooms have been set up with a hybrid function. Did you use one of these classrooms; on location, remotely or hybrid? Please fill in the questionnaire. It takes about ten minutes and is completely anonymous. The hybrid classrooms can be used for teaching on location, remotely and for hybrid teaching. The design of these rooms is part of a pilot project. In order to evaluate what teachers and students think about these classrooms, and what improvements can be done, your feedback is valuable and indispensable.

Questions about hybrid teaching? Drop by during a walk-in
Because there are still many questions about the set-up for hybrid education, we offer extra training sessions. Offering hybrid education is not difficult, but it does not happen automatically either. The walk-in training sessions will be organized in October and November on Monday afternoons from 13.00 to 17.00 hours and on Thursday afternoons from 13.00 to 17.00 hours in room 1.042 at Bolognalaan 101. During these walk-in sessions, you can receive an explanation and try out the system for yourself. Registration for the walk-in sessions is not necessary.

In-depth study with a handful of fellow students
On average a tutorial consists of approximately 25 students. However, students from the Bachelor Cultural Anthropology felt that if you really want to gain an in-depth understanding of a certain subject, the group has to be considerably smaller. With time and resources from the EMP, the programme could respond to this wish. Lecturers Tessa Diphoorn and Nikkie Wiegink set to work with the students in close reading sessions with a maximum of six students.

USO project Visualising differences
Visualizing Differences (Vi-Di) challenges students to critically reflect on dominant societal discourses and media images of diversity, difference, and social exclusion by creating their own films. Through visualisation, students go beyond textual learning, acquiring a different and deeper understanding of academic and societal discourses on diversity and increasing societal impact by bringing their critical films into the public domain.
