Dear Incoming UCU students, We hope this message finds you well! In this edition of our newsletter, we’ll provide you with important information regarding the costs of living on campus and highlight some key academic topics for your studies at University College Utrecht this coming Fall.

Campus FeesIn addition to the tuition fee, students are required to pay a membership fee for the University College Student Association (UCSA) and a campus fee for living on campus. The campus fee covers housing, including campus facilities, water, electricity, and Wi-Fi. Students can choose to pay the campus fees in one, two, four, or nine instalments. Covering the Basics: Key Resources for Academics at UCU |
 |
Academic Rules and RegulationsThe Academic Rules and Regulations (ARR) outline essential aspects of studying at UCU, such as diploma and course requirements, grading, and assessments. A new edition is released each academic year and applies to all students, regardless of when they started their studies. We encourage you to read this document carefully to understand what you can expect from UCU during your studies, as well as what is expected of you as a student.
Curriculum and Course PlannerAt UCU, you will have the flexibility to design your own multidisciplinary curriculum by combining courses from over 20 academic disciplines, with around 230 different courses available each year. While you’ve already selected your course preferences for your first semester, we recommend familiarising yourself with the broader UCU curriculum. You can explore example study programmes on our Curriculum website.
Then, take a look at the UU Course Planner—an online tool where you can browse courses, read descriptions, and find information about prerequisites and required/recommended reading. A helpful manual for using the Course Planner can be found here.
Personal TutorEvery student is assigned a personal tutor—your academic mentor and advisor throughout your time at UCU. Your tutor will offer guidance and support, helping you navigate your academic curriculum options and set your academic goals. You will meet your tutor for the first time during Introduction Week. In the meantime, you can learn more about the tutor system and get to know the tutors currently at UCU on our website.
Shortened ProgrammeIf you have previously studied at university and completed the equivalent of at least 30 or 60 ECTsS credits, you may be eligible to apply for a Shortened Programme. This allows you to reduce the duration of your degree at UCU by one or two semesters. Find more information about the requirements and application process on our website. |
