Green Teams

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has the ambition to make sustainability a key focus in everything we do. This includes our facilities and operations, determining research priorities, our educational programs, and in delivering animal healthcare. Our strategic agenda establishes our commitment to translate our green ambitions into concrete action plans to make the faculty sustainable.

"Our world is changing. The current climate crisis affects all aspects of our society, including our health and healthcare system. We are the Green Team Students from the UMC Utrecht, consisting of students from Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. We believe that our education should prepare us for the future. As a healthcare professional you have to take care of the health of your patients and the planet. ‘’Firstly, do no harm’’, doctors promise when taking the Hippocratic oath. That is why we advocate for structural education about the climate crisis in our curricula. So far, we organized an education colloquium on healthcare and sustainability, a medical waste exhibition and the first climate lecture. Furthermore, we are working with teachers and policy officers to revise the bachelor curriculum and practical skills education. Awareness is the first step towards change."

"The Eleanor Green Office is an advisory body of University College Roosevelt (UCR) in Middelburg, Zeeland. UCR is part of Utrecht University. We are using our creativity and people power to educate, shape opportunities, and push for change to bring forth sustainable and regenerative lifestyles within the UCR community and beyond. The Office organizes events such as clothing exchanges, and workshops among other things, to emphasize the need for change, and to provide concrete examples and possibilities for those looking to pursue a more sustainable lifestyle. Next to events and activism we are also trying to push for systemic change within our university."

"We are the Green Team Pharmacy, a group of enthusiastic teachers and students who want to make pharmacy education more sustainable and create awareness around sustainability for both our students and teachers. For example, we made the practicals of the course ‘Behaviour of the drug in the human body’ more sustainable by replacing single use plastics by reusable glassware as much as possible and by replacing paper lab journals by electronic ones. In the future we want to create more awareness around sustainability by incorporating information regarding sustainability into existing lectures and seminars that touch upon sustainability. Also, we are active in educational and national organisations in order to propagate sustainability on a bigger scale and to coordinate educational sustainability activities. Two examples are the organisation of the symposium ‘Medicine residues in drinking water’ and our contribution to the guideline Planetary Health for the Ministry of Health, Wellbeing and Sports."

The Faculty of Geosciences has the ambition to be world leading in education and research on sustainability. This ambition should also be reflected in its operations and research activities. The Green Team Geosciences supports the faculty. The Green Team Geo deals with themes such as Sustainable Travel, Sustainable supply & Hardware, Sustainable food & catering, Waste Energy and the Geo Laboratories. Curious?
