Dear UBC,
As summer kicks in, we are delighted to conclude this fruitful academic year with the success of our new event, Bioinformatics Industry Day. This event offered a valuable platform for our students and researchers to explore future career opportunities. We are excited to announce that this event will become an annual tradition at UBC, with the next edition already scheduled for 2025. Looking ahead, we continue to bring our community together, and preparations for our UBC Annual Symposium are in full swing. This will be the 10th edition, set to take place on Monday, October 7, at the Princess Máxima Center. This year’s theme is “Bioinformatics in Utrecht: Past 10 Years and the Future”. Please save the date and join us in celebrating this significant milestone! Wishing you a wonderful summer! UBC Daily Board

Meet UBC Principal Investigator Daniel Tamarit
|
We are continuing our series of interviews with UBC's principal investigators, this time featuring Daniel Tamarit, Assistant Professor at the Theoretical Biology and Bioinformatics (TBB) group at Utrecht University. Specializing in evolutionary genomics, Daniel shares his insights into the revolutionary impact of bioinformatics on microbiology, and discusses his research on microbial evolution and genome architecture. Daniel also welcomes collaboration opportunities within the UBC bioinformatics community. |

Review of Bioinformatics Industry Day 2024 |
Over 170 bioinformatics students, researchers, and company representatives gathered for our very first Bioinformatics Industry Day. The event was dedicated to bridging the gap between academic learning and industry practice. It provided a welcome platform for students and researchers to meet companies and explore career opportunities in the bioinformatics sector.

Gearing up towards the 10th UBC Annual Symposium |
The 10th UBC annual symposium will take place at the Princess Máxima Center (Utrecht Science Park) on Monday, October 7. This year, we celebrate a decade of bringing together the bioinformatics community at our annual event. The theme of this year's edition is “Bioinformatics in Utrecht: Past 10 Years and the Future”. It reflects on our journey of the past decade and looks forward to the innovations that lie ahead.
To help us shape this event, we kindly ask you to fill in a short survey to provide your insights on the achievements and perspectives of bioinformatics, and your suggestions on the keynote speakers. Your input is invaluable to us!
