Help us understand the impact of the (upcoming) budget cuts at UU |
Together with the Utrecht Young Academy (UYA), T@UU is conducting a survey to learn more about how recent budget cuts are affecting staff across Utrecht University. Your input gives us valuable insight into the effects these changes may have on our academic community. Thanks for contributing! If you have any questions, you can reach out to project leader Femke van de Glind (f.a.c.vandeglind@uu.nl). |

No seriously, let's play! Games en play in education |
More and more teachers are using Games and Play in their own teaching. This is not surprising, because playful activities can have serious (learning) effects. Think of increasing your students’ motivation, making complex processes transparent, or learning how to take on different perspectives. On 12 May from 15:15-16:45 o'clock, a session will take place in which you will be introduced to some examples, and get to work on designing a playful learning activity yourself. Will you join us? |
What development and support questions do you have in the area of social safety |
Do you cover all topics during your teaching? Do all students receive equal attention? How do you ensure that all students feel included, and that you lead the discussion in the right direction? University Professor Naomi Ellemers' organisational behaviour research group has a lot of expertise in the field of social safety and inclusion, and wants to use this within Utrecht University. To explore how to organise this, they want to collect an inventory of the questions surrounding this topic among lecturers and programmes at the university. Hence the call to answer the question: What development and support questions do you have in the field of social safety? |
High ratings for use of Brightspace |
Brightspace, Utrecht University's (UU) new online learning environment, was used for the first time by a select group of lecturers and students during periods 1 and 2 of this academic year. To great satisfaction. Over period 2, lecturers gave Brightspace an average score of 7.9, students a few tenths lower. Good news, because from the new academic year onwards, every student and lecturer at UU will be working with this new Learning Management System (LMS). |

Comparative assessment with Comproved: Exchange and Inspiration session
|
Evaluations based on comparisons? For many, it is an intuitive process to compare two products with each other, but what do you do when you have to compare more than 50 assignments? With the online tool Comproved it is possible to apply large-scale comparative assessments within your teaching, both by teachers and students. On 15 May from 13:15-14:45 o'clock, a session will take place in which Marije Lesterhuis, co-founder of Comproved, will explain the tool. In addition, teachers Zita Albon and Anke Schreurs will share their experiences with Comproved within their education. Curious about the session?

Learn about assessment, certification & impact of Continuing Education |
A professional does not usually get a diploma but a certificate. What is the significance of this? On 22 May from 13.30 - 17.00 o’clock, we will work on testing, certification and increasing the impact of our Continuining Education on the basis of the following questions: How can you make ovp even better with meaningful testing and a link to practice? How can certificates be even more valuable? And how can you link microcredentials to this? We also explore ways to increase the impact of your education in the short and longer term. |
Innovation in law education: pleading in virtual reality as a learning tool |
Emanuel van Dongen was involved in the national Pleitvrij project and started a faculty USO project to introduce Virtual Reality (VR) pleading at Utrecht Law College. ‘The vast majority of students (94%) felt that VR really contributed to their learning,’ Emanuel explains. ‘That raised the question for us: what exactly works, and how can we better substantiate it? That prompted us to apply for a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) grant and investigate it systematically.’ |
The first Open Education Café as podcast |

Poems and Stories: Giving Stage to Empathic Engagement with Inclusion, Sustainability, and Digitalisation |
This USO project aims to organise an interdisciplinary poetry slam and storytelling event in which REBO students can explore the UU strategic themes of digitalisation, inclusion, and sustainability through these creative formats. The event will be preceded by a number of workshops in which we teach students to write poetry and stories based on the research insights around the strategic themes in order to develop their empathic abilities.
