| Nanoplastics found in the Alps, transported by air from Frankfurt, Paris and London

| A team of researchers have found nanoplastics at the pristine high-altitude Sonnblick Observatory in the Alps. This is the first time that nanoplastics were found in this area. The researchers were originally looking for certain organic particles, but found nanoplastics by chance.

New international project explores future climates of Polar regions
PolarRES, funded by Horizon 2020, focuses on making climate projections in the polar regions more reliable. IMAU will contribute by using regional and global models to study the current and future interaction between the atmosphere, sea ice and clouds for both the Arctic and Antarctica.

| MEMO2: acknowledged by the EC as a success story

| The main goal of MEMO, the EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie Training Network, is to identify methane (CH4) emissions to support mitigation measures. MEMO2 was unique in the sense that it combined novel measurement and modelling tools. All MEMO2 infrastructure is or will soon be publicly available for others to use and build their research on.

| I loved seeing “real data” for the first time

We are very interested in the careers of our former Climate Physics Master students. In this edition Femke de Jong (NIOZ) tells us about the choices she has made.
"We organized several symposia with panel discussions at WHOI and MIT, highlighting research by female scientists. These days, I still try to make people aware of these issues, for instance by going to high schools, hoping to serve as a role model for girls interested in science."
