New teacher development offer from September 2024 |
With the end of the current academic year in sight, we are already looking ahead to the development opportunities in the new year. Once again, the Centre for Academic Teaching and Learning (CAT) will organise interesting workshops throughout the year. The planning for the entire year 2023-2024 is almost complete, and for now, you can already sign up for a number of sessions. Start the new year, for example, with a workshop on how to supervise theses effectively, how to be a coach for your students as a teacher, or on digital assessment. You can also follow sessions on, for example, gaining insight into your qualities as a teacher, student motivation, activating learning activities and learning analytics.

Would you like to provide feedback on the structure of the CAT website?
|
Recently, at the Centre for Academic Teaching and Learning (CAT), we have been working on a new website navigation structure. A new structure is now in place, which we would like to test with our target audience. In autumn 2024, we will plan a number of feedback/testing moments to gain insight into how we can make our website even more user-friendly for our target audience. Do you teach at UU and would you like to provide feedback on the structure of the website? Then please let us know by contacting Marijn van Ellen (y.m.vanellen@uu.nl) and/or Ishaa van der Gouw (i.r.vandergouw@uu.nl)!

Take part in the Collaborative Online International Learning Programme
|
Nowadays, we are constantly in connection with others all around the world. Imagine using that connection in your teaching by bringing students from different cultures and institutes together in one (virtual) classroom. Or in other words: Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL). Interested in this subject? To implement COIL in your teaching you can join the COIL programme of the Centre for Academic Teaching and Learning.

After August 2024, the UU's exam Chromebooks will look different than you may be used to. This is because we will be implementing a new application that will provide a secure exam environment in which students can only access the exam application, but otherwise have no access to the Internet. Exam support is aware of this change and will help during the exams with explanations and guidance as needed. In the image to the right you can see what the home screen will look like. |

Utrecht Education Incentive Fund: five projects granted
|
To keep innovating and improving education, Utrecht University annually makes funds available for innovative projects that contribute to the developments of academic education. The assessment committee of the Utrecht Education Incentive Fund (USO) has selected five projects that either focus on new innovations er explore how existing innovations can be given a permanent place at the university. |
Start or take part in a Special Interest Group
|
The Centre for Academic Teaching and Learning facilitates teachers to exchange expertise. One way to do this is by participating in, or starting a new Special Interest Group (SIG). In a Special Interest Group (SIG), teachers meet regularly around a shared interest in a defined topic that is close to their hearts and relevant to academic teaching. Becoming a participant of a SIG is open to all interested teachers at Utrecht University and is entirely without obligation. In addition, every teacher is welcome to start a SIG. Are you interested in a specific educational topic? Then please check if there is already a SIG in place or start one!

What aspects of a space encourage active and collaborative learning?
|
The design of a space causes certain behaviours, both in students and teachers. Future Learning Spaces investigates how spaces better facilitate active and collaborative learning, key topics in the UU educational vision. The literature review "Designing Active Learning Spaces, what to consider?" reveals the three most important aspects: visibility, mobility and learning resources. In this review, you will read, among other things, how seating and table shapes influence student behaviour and engagement, and the importance of mobility and flexible furniture arrangements for promoting collaboration and interaction is highlighted. Curious?
