|
|
As of 1 July 2021, the N.W. Posthumus Institute is hosted by the Department of History & Art History of Utrecht University. This 'change of address' follows from of the regular rotation schedule of the institute's seat among the core insitutions of the N.W. Posthumus Institute every fifth year. The N.W. Posthumus Institute therefore wishes to express its gratitude to Radboud University for their hospitality and support over the past five years, and especially wants to say thanks to its previous staff members Angelique Janssens, Tim Riswick, and Milou van den Berg for their great work and efforts for the NWP over the past years. | ... and some new faces, too!
|
|
This quinquennial change of the Institute’s home seat also means a change of staff: we are happy to introduce to you Jessica Dijkman (Scientific Director), Rogier van Kooten (Education Programme Director), and René van Weeren (Office Manager) as new staff members of the N.W. Posthumus Institute, all affilated with the Department of History and Art History of Utrecht University. Jessica is Associate Professor in Economic History with the aforementioned department, currently focusing her research on how societies in late medieval and early modern Europe coped with food crises and famines. Rogier is as Postdoc Researcher also affiliated with the Department of History of the University of Antwerp. He is specialised in the use of spatial data for long-term analysis. René has been working as Education and Research Support Officer for several NWO- and ERC-projects and as Executive Director of the International Association for the Study of the Commons (2014-2019).

| Pepijn Brandon receives NWO VIDI Grant
|
| Dr Pepijn Brandon (VU Amsterdam/IISH), Research Director of the Posthumus Research Network ‘Economy and Society of the Pre-industrial Low Countries in Comparative Perspective’ has been awarded a VIDI Grant by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) for his project ‘Land Grabbing and Dutch Empire (16th-18th century)’.

The N.W. Posthumus Institute organises its annual Posthumus Career Day this year on 8 October 2021 in Utrecht. The Posthumus Career Day aims to prepare PhD candidates for their professional life after graduation. This event will offer you speed-dates with Posthumus alumni as well as an informative workshop. Please do note that this event is planned as live and on-site event, but is subject to the possible effects COVID measures may have. Deadline for registration is 23 September 2021.

| Call for Papers Datini-ESTER Advanced Seminar 2022
|
|
Fondazione Istituto Internazionale di Storia Economica “F. Datini” and the European School for Training in Economic and Social Historical Research (ESTER) announce their sixth jointly-organized Datini-ESTER Advanced Seminar for economic and social historians, to be held on 8-13 May 2022, in Prato (Italy) on the theme of “Economic Innovations”. The topic of the seminar is closely related to the theme of the congress organized yearly by the “F. Datini” International Institute of Economic History, which in 2022 is devoted to ‘The Knowledge Economy. Innovation, Productivity and Economic Growth’. Papers can cover any relevant aspect and any period from Antiquity until today and should be submitted ultimately 15 October 2021.

| The researchers of WorkPackage 4 ‘Socio-econonomic history’ of the CLARIAH PLUS project would like to invite you to the workshop ‘Linking historical person observations to the Linked Dutch Civil Registry (LINKS)’ held on Friday 27 August 2021. The workshop will introduce burgerLinker: an open-source tool to link person observations to the Dutch Civil Registry.

| The 19th World Economic History Congress will be held in Paris, France on 25-29 July 2022. WEHC 2022 will address “resources” (natural, material, immaterial and human (work and skills)) as one of the main challenges of the contemporary world. Various calls for abstracts for this conference are currently open. Deadline for all calls is 1 December 2021.

| Workshop 'Languages of Consumption'
|
| On 3 and 4 February 2022, the Universities of Antwerp and Baselwill co-host the Workshop 'Languages of Consumption in the 18th and 19th Centuries' in Basel Switzerland, aimed at fostering knowledge of the languages of consumption in this era of critical transitions. Abstracts are due by 30 September 2021.
