As Principal Fellow (SF) of the Centre for Academic Teaching (CAT) she is involved in projects supporting teachers that want to get engaged in educational scholarship. Irma has been involved in initiating several initiatives for SoTL such as the yearly Utrecht SoTL-conference, a special interest group (SIG) on SoTL, and the SoTL-grants provided by CAT. She is a co-author of the Utrecht Roadmap for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (UR-SoTL) a very helpful, free available, tool for everyone who want to professionalize as a teacher and optimize their own teaching practice. In May 2022 she was awarded a grant from the Utrecht Education Incentive Fund for the project ‘Get started and keep going with SoTL!’.  The aim of this three-year project is to structurally integrate SoTL within the UU by appointing SoTL-advocates and establish faculty-based learning communities on SoTL within every faculty of Utrecht University. From July 1, 2022 Irma Meijerman has been appointed as vice-president Europe of the International Society of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).
Irma also has considerable experience in course- and curriculum development, such as the bachelor programma College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, honours teaching, and research-based teaching. She teaches mainly in the areas of drug toxicology and preclinical drug development. Her master course "Drug Toxicity and Communication" was rewarded as the most outstanding master Pharmacy course of the academic year 2021-2022.

Irma graduated from Wageningen University in Environmental Hygiene, and obtained her PhD in Toxicology at Leiden University. From 1999-2001 she worked at Numico Research, Wageningen, in the field of oncology. She extended her experience as a toxicologist and researcher in the area of cell- and molecular biology, pharmacokinetics, and oncolytic drugs at Utrecht University until 2010. At the moment she is fully appointed as associate professor at the faculty of Science and as a Senior Fellow of CAT.
