Psychological principles applied in educational research
|
|
Would you like to work on evidence-informed education?
|
|
| Psychologist and associate professor Catharine Evers has a big heart for education. In addition to conducting research, she is a passionate teacher. ‘Because of my academic mindset, I quickly began to wonder: how do students learn? How can I best convey the subject matter to them? And what educational principles underlie this?’ This prompted Evers to investigate. How did her knowledge of psychology help her in this? |
| | Get started with Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). This form of research enables you to systematically examine your own teaching practice. The CAT will help you get started right away: apply for a SoTL grant or register for the Teaching Scholars Programme. Interest in SoTL is growing rapidly, also nationally. The NRO recently published an overview article about this approach and a webinar was organised especially for teachers who want to learn more about this research-based approach to their teaching. |

| Looking back on over a decade of T@UU |
Unfortunately, after more than ten years of connecting, inspiring and empowering teachers, T@UU is coming to an end, a decision that follows the recent university-wide budget cuts. This moment invites reflection: on what we have built together, the ideas we have shared and the many ways in which T@UU has shaped teaching and learning at our university. Curious about how it all began? |

| Value of Continuing Education for the University |
| Continuing Education (OvP) will become a permanent part of the primary process from 2026 onwards. Through OvP, we enhance the societal impact of our research and strengthen transdisciplinary collaboration. In recent years, Utrecht University has gained a leading position among Dutch universities in the field of governance and infrastructure for Continuing Education. Other universities now use our approach as an example. |
From the Teaching and Learning Collection |
Active learning puts a focus on activating students to participate in the lecture or seminar. By challenging them to think about what they’re learning and by activating them to reflect on the presented knowledge, a higher level of learning can be achieved. Curious about how you can promote active learning in your teaching? The Teaching and Learning Collection is full of active learning activities. |
