Celebratory Opening to mark the relocation of the Centre For Academic Teaching and Learning |
As of 1 September 2023, the Centre for Academic Teaching and Learning (CAT) has moved to Bolognalaan 101 at the Utrecht Science Park. To celebrate this, we will organise a celebratory opening on 12 October from 16:00-18:00 o’clock. While enjoying a snack and drink, you can (re)discover what the CAT has to offer you, meet colleagues and get inspiration for your own development and teaching. If you cannot make it between 16:00 and 18:00: the door will be open all day, so feel free to drop in!
See you on 12 October at the Bolognalaan 101! |
Guide to Generative AI for lecturers |
Generative AI (GenAI) is a form of artificial intelligence that can create new content, such as the chatbot ChatGPT. As a lecturer, you can decide to what extent students can use it per course or assignment. A guide has been developed to inform students about the use of chatbots and to make clear what is or is not allowed. More information can be found on the intranet page and in the guide. Also, you can register for the workshop; discover the magic of AI. |
New teacher development offer |
In 2023-2024, the Centre for Academic Teaching and Learning (CAT) will again organise interesting workshops and webinars (W&W). In October, for example, you can attend sessions on effective thesis supervision, artificial intelligence and the teacher role in a challenge based learning course. In addition, the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) programme is organising a series of sessions as part of the diversity month, for example on an inclusive curriculum. The complete annual development offer is already planned, so be sure to check which workshops you would like to attend during the year and register. |

The seminar room of the future: Limited by the standard or unlimited choices? |
In the session of 28 September, the Future Learning Spaces project will focus on the future of the seminar room. In view of the many impending construction and remodeling projects, it makes sense to take a closer look at the current seminar standard and test it for future resilience. What do we expect for, say, the next five years? Will one standard be enough by then, or should we also diversify our seminar spaces? How do you see this? Register via fls@uu.nl and get involved! The session will take place from 12:00-13:30 o’clock at the Bolognalaan 101. |

Teaching and Learning Lab Inspiration café: Do students really pay attention? |
Have you ever thought about what your students are missing and what they follow when they work with the materials provided or listen to a lecture? The fascinating application of eye-tracking can open an eye into how students (and teachers!) function in classrooms and beyond. During the TLL Inspiration Café on 26 October, we will discuss the advantages and limitations of capturing eye movements – and of course we will also try out eye-tracking equipment on each other. We look forward to welcoming you at the Inspiration café! |

Getting started with educational innovation: THERMOS – providing feedback for students via a Learning Analytics Dashboard |
Quite a lot is expected of students at UU, including an effective way of studying. Reflecting and working on study behaviour can be quite difficult. Marieke van der Schaaf and Lars de Vreugd wanted to support students in this. This gave them the idea to investigate this further in a USO (Utrecht Education Incentive Fund) project. Their project has now been completed. Concrete result: the set-up of the Thermos dashboard. We asked Lars about his experiences with this project. |
