Born in October, autumn has always been my favorite season. Falling leaves, the warm colors, chestnuts and the smell of apples and cinnamon. It is also the season to draw up the balance and see what our harvest has been.
As for the community Towards a Circular Economy and Society we have worked on setting up a national academic network, which is currently funded by the provinces. In addition we are developing professional education on circular economy. If you are looking for inspiration, come visit the Circular Economy Festival we are hosting. It will take place on the 4th of October, and will be our chance to share and discuss some visions on postgrowth.
As I’m writing this, I am looking forward to 3 weeks travel through India in November. Curious and delighted I am to visit this country with colored clothes worn by the Indian people, the smell of cardamom, coriander, incense and curry. Visiting the pink city of Jaipur, the blue city of Jodhpur is a dream that finally comes true
However, India has many faces. Behind the mystical temples and forts, there is also extreme poverty. India nowadays has the largest population in the world, and is still growing. With that, the economy grows as well, together with the demand for fossil fuels. The production of 3,4 million tons of plastic every year, while only 30% is recycled, creates lots of plastic waste. Also the fast fashion industry in India has led to an increase in waste and pollution.
Looking forward to visiting this country, it confronts me with the reasons why Pathways to Sustainability and our communities are so important. While I see so many great things that we have achieved, it reminds me of how much still needs to be done.
Kind regards,
Esther Haak,
Community manager 'Towards a Circular Economy and Society'

SUSTAINABILITY DIALOGUE - THE URBAN-RURAL DIVIDE |
The urban-rural divide is of all times, but seems to be increasingly mentioned in diverse discussions in recent years. What is it about when people talk about a divide? To what extent is there actually a divide or are urban and rural areas more intertwined than thought? We discuss these questions using themes such as food, nature and culture in the province of Utrecht.

Pathways to Sustainability Funding Instruments |
We offer various funding opportunities, each with individual scope, award amounts and periods of duration, but all with a focus on the aims of the Pathways to Sustainability strategic theme:
