Blog post

Systematic reviewing using software implementing Active Learning (AL) is relatively new. Many users (and reviewers) have to get familiar with the many different ways how AL can be used in practice. In this blog post, we discuss seven ways meant to inspire users.

Running simulation studies

A simulation involves mimicking the screening process with a certain model. As it is already known which records are labeled as relevant, the software can automatically reenact the screening process as if a human was labeling the records. The documentation about running simulation studies has been updated.

Make it automatic

Running large-scale simulation studies might require writing hundreds of lines of code. ASReviews' Makita (MAKe IT Automatic) is a workflow generator for automatically generating fully featured simulation projects. Comparing the performance of many different models on many different datasets has never been this easy!

September 26: Summit on AI and predictive health

The alliance TU/e, WUR, UU, UMC Utrecht would like to invite you to join the first live summit on Artificial Intelligence and Predictive Health. The ASReview team will host a discussion on inclusive training datasets for text mining purposes.

ASReview LAB version v1.0.3 is out

Due to a bug in Python 3.7, some users face an error during project initialization in ASReview LAB 1.0. The problem is resolved in v1.0.3. Upgrading ASReview or Python solves the problem.

Discussion platform

The ASReview discussion platform is used by the community to discuss many topics, for example, when to stop screening.

Example use of ASReview in a pipeline

The Center for Urban Mental Health used ASReview for an enormous, systematic review (> 165.046 hits) to discover what factors and interactions contribute to the onset, maintenance, and relapse of anxiety-, depressive-, and substance use disorders. The search, the preprocessing scripts, and all code, data, and pre-print- are now available.
