Traces of Slavery: Call for posters |
Did you conduct research on the history of slavery or colonialism for an assignment or thesis? Share it with us through a poster! We would love to showcase the poster during the Traces of Slavery event on 5 July. The deadline for submission is 25 June. Of course, you can also register for the event without submitting a poster! Re-Imagining Security: A brand-new interdisciplinary minor |
Dive into issues of security, violence, human rights, international politics, and power. This minor is a collaboration between the departments of Cultural Anthropology, Law, History, and the Utrecht University of Applied Sciences. You'll gain insights from each discipline, which is helpful if you're considering a master's degree. The programme begins in September 2023. |

Incluusion Buddy Programme

As a buddy, you help a refugee student feel at home in Utrecht. Being a buddy requires a commitment of 2 hours per week for an entire block, but you can also participate in multiple blocks if you'd like. If you're signing up with a friend, please indicate it on the form!

Chiara Stam is the new student assessor on the Executive Board

Following a successful year as a student assessor at our faculty, Chiara Stam (Media and Culture) will assume the role of student assessor in the Executive Board for the upcoming year. Chiara: "There are numerous aspects that hold great importance to me, but one of my key goals is to enhance the connection between students and the university." Additionally, Chiara highlighted the significance of addressing social safety as a key theme.

As a member of the United Netherlands Delegation, you have the chance to participate in Model UN debates at Oxford and Harvard along with a group of motivated students. To prepare for this experience, you will learn about diplomacy, public speaking, negotiation, and leadership through a training programme at Radboud University in Nijmegen. The upcoming application deadline is in mid-August.

Oat of this world: Oat milk from the coffee vending machines
|
Starting from July, you can enjoy a cappuccino or hot chocolate with plant-based milk from coffee vending machines in select UU buildings. The new 'Oat of this World' coffee vending machines will offer oat milk instead of cow's milk, at the same price you're used to.

A charge for single-use plastic |
In more sustainable news, as of 1 July, we will no longer provide free single-use plastic items at Utrecht University. This change applies to items such as cups in coffee machines, disposable coffee cups and containers in the restaurants, as well as for food trucks at the Utrecht Science Park. From that point forward, a fee will be charged for the use of disposable cups and containers.

» 28 June: Programming Cafe A monthly recurring event. Each edition will have a special theme: a short presentation or demonstration of (maximum) half an hour. After that, you can ask questions, share knowledge and meet other researchers.
» 29 June: Explore the Botanic Gardens with a drink and snack during sunset
Normally it is only the animals and insects that enjoy the Gardens at dusk, but this summer you can too. Wander through the tranquil gardens, view the empty campus from the Rock Garden or plop down on our terrace for a snack.
» 13 September: Diversity Dinner Dialogues #2 on religion and disabilities
