While we are all still enjoying a beautiful late summer, the start of the new academic year is already upon us and there is cause for celebration. On 1 September, the Centre for Academic Teaching and Learning will celebrate its five-year anniversary, together with our partner TAUU, which will celebrate its ten-year anniversary! Of course we cannot let that pass unnoticed. From September to December, we will celebrate this special occasion with various activities, especially with the lustrum party on 13 October. I hope to meet many of you there, because CAT is all of us: lecturers, students, didactic and technological experts, support staff, policy staff and social partners. In short, everyone who is committed to or feels involved in UU education. In the coming academic year, we will once again be working hard to support lecturers in their work and development. Together, we will bring education to a higher level, realise educational innovations and strengthen the knowledge base about university education in the various disciplines. | Lustrum festivities on 13 October
|
| On 13 October, together with all our CAT partners and teachers, we will celebrate our five-year anniversary as well as the ten-year anniversary of our partner TAUU. At the special location Museum Speelklok, during the 'All Inclusive' symposium organised in collaboration with EDI, you can follow workshops on inclusiveness, attend a live recording of the podcast 'De UU Docentenkamer', get in motion with former Dutch boxing champion Houda Loukili and more. We will end the day festively with a walking dinner and a sparkling dance party, but the festivities do not stop there. From September to December, various lustrum activities will be organised.

| In the new academic year, the workshops and webinars will also start again. In September, you can for example learn how to monitor the well-being of your students, get acquainted with the Pitch2Peer tool or become better at making your teaching more engaging. | Peer Observation programme for teachers

| Teaching is often done individually: what happens in the classroom, stays in the classroom. Would you like to take a look at another teacher's work? Or would you like another teacher to observe you in order to provide feedback? This is possible with the Peer Observation programme.

| In addition to education for Bachelor and Master students, universities also have Continuing Education (CE) as a task. Education for professionals requires a certain design and supervision. In order to support teachers in the (further) development of this type of education and to learn from each other, the EWUU alliance partners offer the modular course 'Didactics for Continuing Education’. This course deals with the characteristics of didactics for Continuing Education. To what extent is this different from didactics for regular teaching?

| Do you want to try a possible solution to a problem in your students’ learning? Do you want to obtain more information that can help you gain insight into your student’s learning? Taking a systematic, research-informed approach to these questions, according to the principles of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), will not only provide you with answers to these questions but will also contribute to education quality by generating context- and discipline specific, educational knowledge. All teachers (starting and more experienced) can now apply for granting of small SoTL projects.

| Future Learning Spaces requests
|
| Do you want to use small-scale, engaging teaching or group work in your teaching for the coming academic year and do you need a Future Learning Space for this? The scheduling procedure of a Future Learning Space runs ahead of the reservation process of regular teaching rooms. For the second semester of academic year 2022-2023, requests for a Future Learning Space must be made before 16 September to the scheduling agents of your own faculty or via fls@uu.nl. These spaces are available to all lecturers. More spaces will be added in the second semester of the coming academic year.

Ten years TAUU!
Besides the five-year anniversary of the CAT, this year we are also celebrating the tenth-year anniversary of our teachers' community TAUU. Therefore, the lustrum festivities on 13 October will also partly focus on this. One of the founders of TAUU, Christel Lutz, will reflect on ten years of TAUU together with current TAUU Council member Marij Swinkels.

Based on the booklet “Interdisciplinary Orientation; Learning to navigate beyond your discipline”, there is now a teacher’s guide to provide inspiration and to give suggestions for how to incorporate interdisciplinarity in your classroom. This guide can help with activity ideas that can provide students with an interdisciplinary orientation, provides suggestions to raise awareness, and helps to develop certain skills and attitudes.
